The personal mission crest designed for Chris Hadfield's second ISS mission had to communicate both personal representations about himself and about the mission of the International Space Station. The first symbolic reference is the form of the crest itself, which is the same shape as a guitar pick symbolizing Chris Hadfield's passion for music. Inside this form, we see three stars, each representing his children. There are three interlocking moon shapes, that represent the stepping stones towards mars. The white being the atmosphere of the earth, the grey being the moon, and finally, the red being mars itself. Finally, the earth itself is represented as a blue form encased by its atmosphere. This symbolizes Chris Hadfield's commitment to water resource management.
